Into the Ganges...
Dear Body,
For all my life,
I lived for you;
Though,
I died on numerous counts.
Saddening... it was for me;
For you,
You never lost ground.
You washed your sins every day.
Bowing down to your needs,
When I was nearing my decay.
Fearing I will perish,
In the oblivion,
Today, I set myself free,
Into the Ganges...
Your Soul.
Muddled soul in a tyrant body seeks recourse.
Prisoner for thirty odd years can survive no more.

Why such a sad one, Saru? Good writing of course!
ReplyDeleteSaru, please treat Ashwini to be the first one as she wrote a longer comment than me:)
Delete@Rahul Bhatia- Nothing Sir, I just wanted to write something with the phrase 'Into the Ganges' and this thought came up. Thanks for reading Sir. Also, I think you and Ash share the top spot here:)

DeleteWow,Superb.I am wondering how deeply you would have thought to come up with such a soulful poem. The soul is fluttering inside the body like a caged bird,it want to become free after bearing lot of good and bad things and finally its free,it just fly away.
ReplyDeleteHats off to your imagination :)
The way you comprehended this poem is applaudable. You said everything in this line, 'The soul is fluttering inside the body like a caged bird.'

Bikram's
True, body can be repaired but you can't repair the soul. Thanks for liking the poem Bikram...:)
DeleteThis is just I want to say. Reading this small poem perhaps made my day for now I know there is someone who feels just the way I do. Great one, Saru.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, all this monotonous milieu and sadness will soon end and time'll swerve it's way. Faith is probably stronger than time. :)
Little sad to know that you are feeling like this. Yeah, faith is stronger than all the adjectives which we use to cheer ourselves.
DeleteThanks for reading and be happy :)
This poem is absolutely brilliant, probably the most unique as compared to all your other master-pieces. I am really intrigued to know, what inspired you to write this poem. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing serious as such, wanted to write on the phrase 'Into the Ganges' and this thought came. I know it's little sad but spiritual. Ganges can be used only when you write something beyond this world. Hope you agree...:)
DeleteI agree Saru. Now I understand why you are missing India so much :(
DeleteThere is never a day when I don't miss India. But, off late this feeling is very strong.
DeleteAmazing, soul-stirring poetry Saru! The picture goes really well with this!
ReplyDeletePicture is really beautiful. Thanks for liking the poem, dear.:)
DeleteThis is just so brilliant.. Very creative Saru..

DeleteHeart touching poem Saru. The soul dying so many times, but living only for the body, whereas it is the body who betrays in the end, even if the soul wants to live....Top notch creativity!
ReplyDelete30 odd years and want to leave -> This was in a sad context. I hope everything is fine.
Everything is all right, Jenny. Thanks for liking the poem. Actually, blushing on the words 'Top notch creativity' :)

Today, I set myself free,

These lines stood out Saru! Though sad, this is an amazingly intense poem :)

Saru.:)
Yeah, we all know when and where we are wrong but the worldly pursuits corrupt us. I wish we listen to the soul sometimes, if not always.

DeleteSaru,
ReplyDeleteI personally believe in Body-Dharma, and live by it actually, not verbally. What a co-incidence that this poem comes my way... Thanks that I am not the only one, even if in poetic imagination.
Best,
— Remi
We all believe in it but don't practice it. Thank God, you have some good people like you who practice it. Thanks for a lovely comment and welcome here...:)

Yeah, spring cleansing of the soul. We should indulge in it sometimes. As a writer, it would be rather easy for all of us. Thanks for a lovely comment and welcome here...:)

ReplyDeletetoday ganga is polluted
Sad state of a holy river. Thanks for reading dear :)
Deletethat poem worries me, Saru. It is well-written but I hope you are okay:)
ReplyDeleteI am OK dear. Thanks for reading and for your concern.
DeleteVery well written.
ReplyDeleteThis same feeling and thought incited our mystic ancestors to search for eternal peace. Fear of loosing one's soul to this acquisitive world.
My salute.
Thanks dear. Humbled to read your comment. :)
DeleteNo doubt the poem is too good and soul touching. Yes it is true "Muddled soul in a tyrant body seeks recourse."The way soul is expressing its feeling to the body is superb. But I think the third and very important factor is missing here which cause the soul to suffer, and that is "Mind." if the body bowing down to its need, and the reason of soul suffering, because of mischievious mind who keep on jumping one place to other. Otherwise soul in a tyrant body seeks recourse and set itself free into the Ganges. As one need to be organised and discipline, to make the suffering of soul minimum and this is not my words, this actually yours.
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece of writing:) Keep Rocking!
Mithlash, when I said body, it is implied that we are talking not only about the flesh but heart and mind too. What is a body without it? Actually, read it like this. We have a body and we have a conscience. Body is comprised of heart and mind. But somewhere inside we have a conscience, which is referred to as soul. At times our body, be it head or heart says that something is to be done for the benefit of it; we do it knowing well deep inside that is wrong. The part which is telling you deep down that you are wrong is your conscience/soul. Hope I am able to put my thoughts clearly to you. :)
DeleteThanks for reading and stimulating a discussion.
Saru now its clear, actually the way I read it made me confuse. Yes the conscience (the soul) keep telling us that something wrong is happening n if we keep ignoring the conscience, it is left with no option but surrender into the Ganges. Thanks for making it clear to me:)
DeleteAlways a pleasure hearing your opinions. Thanks to you:)
DeleteBeautifully poignant Saru. What all we put our soul through, it is no wonder that at the end it feels like it is finally free. That is why it is called Mukti"
ReplyDeleteYeah and we shall have that feeling in the end to attain a state of bliss. Thanks for reading Swapna.
DeleteI go through the stimulating conversations – each has some point (I add no adjectives) here. Nobody can touch truth in words, for, the moment words express truth, it is no more truth. Poetry helps by its many levels and ambiguities to reach truth – from gross physical level to consciousness level.
ReplyDeleteWe have Self (call it consciousness or “I” or whatever...). And two tools, Body and Mind; which one of them dominates other is questionable. Certainly Body is intelligence or wisdom, independent of our Mind. This is not only among humans, but other living-beings – plants and animals. Only problem is we don’t understand or comprehend their language. I wonder if whatever we call “soul” is concerned about our behavior, thinking, indulgences... blah, blah, blah!
Do we ever have dialogue with our body? Indeed, as you body tells us, but we ignore. Body continuously sends signals, but we ignore, unless there is a severe chest-pain!!
Body gives us signals and it is up to us which path we follow. But I think soul in deep down there, it has nothing to do with body. It is, according to me, always right. But as you said we have various theories based on our experiences. We can't say right or wrong here.
DeleteI simply loved this line, 'Poetry helps by its many levels and ambiguities to reach truth – from gross physical level to consciousness level'
Thanks for sharing your views here. It adds to the beauty of this poem.
such a beautiful poem...hats off to you for writing such a wonderful masterpiece!

Deletewhat a deep thought. reminded me of my dip in to the ganges given to my body a month ago for moksha of departed souls, by my soul. As i write this, i can feel the dips and the departed ones , blessing my soul.
ReplyDeleteGanges evoke deep emotions in Indians. I can totally understand your feelings. Thanks a lot for reading.
DeleteAmazing....
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI think I am too late to comment on this but I have been off blogosphere for a while.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this is really touching and how you have expressed the constant tussle between one's soul and the physical world, in a small poem, is extremely commendable.
Thanks Prateek and you are right about the tussle of soul and body.
DeleteSimply Superb !!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
DeleteDon't swallow any of the water!
