Wailing Woes
On her frail shoulders,
the threads of Pashmina talk.
Of a valley, of heaven,
of a moonlit night.
Demure, she froze
amidst the discordant noise,
Charred bodies around her,
her flesh and blood died.
On moonlit nights, hence
she walks barefoot on the snow,
Suffering within and out,
I can listen,
what her silence speaks out loud.
Deranged, Demented,
She drags her body around,
Unaware, Listless,
what she has lost can never be found.
I call her,
whenever she passes by me,
I have been piling up sorrows as debris.
Come! My child
Let me hear your pain,
Let me soothe your wounds,
Let me jostle your soul,
So you shed a tear.
I know your pain,
I have done all this myself,
And I have been there.

DeleteVery nicely and wisely you explained the pain, sorrow, grief of a women who lost her dear and near one in the valley. And I liked this "Let me hear your pain,
ReplyDeleteLet me soothe your wounds,
Let me jostle your soul,
So you shed a tear."
Tears have the potential to heal any wound of the soul.
Overall very wisely written:)
True, shedding them gives you a little relief. Thanks for reading Mithlash:)

Thanks for reading Anu...:)
DeleteIt seems you were able to put yourself in the shoes of the woman you spoke of. How else can one describe or even identify the thoughts going on inside her head. That's quite an ability :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, your comment is very motivating.

Deleteone of those poems where you feel a million things after reading it but cannot express it in words. very masterful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Subhorup, your comment made my day!
DeleteWhen I read word 'Pashmina', I thought many more such words related to plot will come in poem; May be you could hve wrote it much better from the point of view of victims.Still it's a great poem on humanity. Nice picture too. Good one Saru :)
ReplyDeleteCouldn't understand Deepak, the association of word with the victims point of view. Please explain. The poem is written from a victim's point of view, how she feels when she sees another victim. :)
DeleteThanks for reading it :)
Saru; some words Pashmina, Valley, Snow etc. were started to create a complete picture of the Kashmir and there was sort of plot created by you in some lines, which suddenly disappeared. Just a thought from the point of storyteller :))
DeleteI have to agree when someone who writes beautifully on Kashmir says so...:)
DeleteIt is difficult to express someone else's pain so completely & poignantly as you have done.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ma'am:)
DeleteTatsat I want to write on such issues and at the same time I need to have variety on the blog. I write whenever I feel strongly about an issue. Glad you liked it this time. And even being a female I can never understand what these women went through. It was just an effort to write on something I strongly feel...
ReplyDeleteTouching, and beautifully written indeed Saru. I just wish I'd write like you someday.

Sad to know that and we are helpless. Thanks for reading dear and sharing your experiences.

DeleteLet me hear your pain,
ReplyDeleteLet me soothe your wounds,
Let me jostle your soul,
So you shed a tear.
Sukh baante ni badhta hai, dukh baatne se ghat'ta hai. No advice, no promise, sometimes all you need is someone to listen to you.
It takes a lot of courage to shed a tear, to accept the sense of loss which has dismantled your inner self.
I have done all this myself.
Why does he do so? I have heard this question many a times from atheists and I never have a second opinion to it and I end up beating around the bush.
Loved the poem from beginning to end :) Do read Sanhita's poem too if you haven't.
That is true, at time we need a shoulder to lean on. In the poem, 'I have done all this myself' represents that the other lady has gone through all that in her life. She can understand and relate to the pain.
DeleteGlad you liked it. There's nothing more rewarding than someone appreciating your work. I read her poem too. It was soul stirring.
Thanks for reading :)
Saru di!! you beautifully 'pain'ted the feelings of the women living out there....it needs a lot of efforts to do that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hemant.
DeleteSoulful Saru :) Very touching and well written :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sush :)
