Cry of a Mother
Half of the time, I smiled,
For the better half, I
raised him.
I painted his future with
fine strokes,
I put amber where light was
dim.
What went wrong?
I wish I could answer, I
wish I knew.
I wish my flesh and blood,
Gave me a better adieu.
Till the last tear they will
shed in grief,
I'll remain by their side.
Weeping in silent tears,
I'm shaking from inside.
Hold me tight, as tight it
can be,
Though my soul is trying to
break free.
Stunning and genuine emotions!!! Nothing else to say..
ReplyDeleteMay their souls rest in peace.
May they rest in peace. Thanks for reading Jayanth.
DeleteSaru - truly touched my heart ... the line where you say "gave me a better adieu", gave me a shiver down the spine ... How true of a mother's feel across the universe ..
ReplyDeleteMy heartfelt condolences to all the families. May god bless them peace in heaven!
Being a mother is a tough job and when someone faces such kind of a situation, seems like God is being extra harsh to them.
DeleteVery poignant and heart wrenching, Saru! May such incidents be never repeated again.
ReplyDeleteI agree Sir, such events should never be repeated.
DeleteThis makes me want to cry!
ReplyDeleteYou should read this blog post: http://anarchistsoccermom.blogspot.com/2012/12/thinking-unthinkable.html It's not written by me. It's written by a mom that has a mentally ill child. So heartbreaking!
I read that post, at times, God is extra harsh with some Mothers. This event makes us all cry...
DeleteI'm sure all mothers are shaking their heads and wondering what went wrong. Read We have to talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver!
ReplyDeleteHeartbreaking piece of writing.
Nope, I will read it. This is such a difficult situation. Thanks for reading.
DeleteAh! That was hard.
ReplyDelete'I wish my flesh and blood,
Gave me a better adieu.' - Esp these lines were so poignant.
May God Bless their families!

ReplyDeleteYes, so very heartbreaking...
Deleteheartbreaking peace of writting
ReplyDeleteamazing post...
Thank you Ankit!
DeleteThis was an extremely unfortunate incident. We don't know what to blame- the gun laws or the lack of treatment and acceptance for the disabled. The heart cries for the innocent kids but in someway sympathizes with the killer as well, as he was just 20!
ReplyDeleteYou captured both the emotions perfectly. And even though my heart is heavy, I loved the post.
That is something we all missed. He was 20 and mentally ill. Hope we have better gun laws in every country.
DeleteThanks for reading and glad this piece touched you.
This piece took me far away and deep inside. Amazing! :)

DeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteIts hard to imagine what went inside the head of the two.
Weird that the toughest thing to think about is what other person might have thought.
Yeah, however when I was watching the interview of the families of the victim, I was shocked to see the forgiveness in their hearts.
Deleteheart touching...

b'fully written.. A woman whose kid is not well... is already so emotinaly broken!
ReplyDeleteVery right. May they all rest in peace.
DeleteShe had a very sad end. I wonder what went on in her mind when she was being attacked. I wish she never had that many guns at home. May she rest in peace and may those lovely children and the other staff too rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteNice one, Saru.
I can't understand why people keep so many guns at home, we surely need better Gun Laws. May they rest in peace.
DeleteWhat she did to deserve such tragic end. Nothing, absolutely nothing can justify such a crime. Peace to her and all the 26 people.
ReplyDeleteYes, nothing at all can justify this. Such a sad incidence.
DeleteI really liked this post Saru!!
ReplyDelete:)
Thank you and welcome here.
DeleteExperienced the feelings dripping from the words, Saru. Sometimes it is not just the values the parents impart, but a lot of things besides that is responsible for such psychotic and perverse acts.
ReplyDeleteI agree, something are just out of our control and understanding. Thanks for reading Ma'am.
Deletetouching!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI am totally spellbound.... Wonderful creation......

Hi Saru,
ReplyDeleteLovely, heartfelt perspective of the mother of the killer.
"I wish my flesh and blood, gave me a better adieu"
The line reminds me of the parting between Richard Parker and Pi from the movie Life of Pi. A very touching line and moment.
Loved reading this post.
Keep up the good work

Jay

ReplyDeleteIndeed Arti and should never be repeated.
DeleteGot tears in my eyes while reading! Touching poem Saru!
ReplyDeleteOh! The entire episode is heart-wrenching Valli.
DeleteVery different perspective Saru ! When kids turn out this way, a mother's sorrow can only be imagined.
ReplyDeleteTrue, we can't even imagine what she might have gone through. Thanks for reading.
Delete"Hold me tight"
ReplyDeleteI wish every mother could do that.
I wish...
DeleteSo moving. No mother would want to go through this!
ReplyDeleteNo one for sure...
DeleteHeartbreaking and moving poem. Well done Saru!

*FEEL HELPLESS*
Me too, I feel very helpless and now I don't read the morning paper or News Site.
DeleteA heart breaking piece, Saru. Am numb with sadness. What kind of demons exist in the garb of 'human beings'. So well penned.
ReplyDeleteThis case is little different from what we hear often, this guy was mentally ill and there was not enough help to him while growing up. Thanks for reading and a wonderful comment.
DeleteThe incident was shocking to say the least. Not only for those who died, but for their loved ones and also for the family of the killer. What went wrong? I guess no one will ever come to know..
ReplyDeleteNo one will ever come to know the actual truth, we will all build our own hypothesis. Such a heart-wrenching incident and today is its one week anniversary. :(
Deletetears thats all i have...heart wrenching..this and the gangrape incident makes me question the kind of world i live in!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.myunfinishedlife.com/
Seriously, all such incidences make us wonder about the sanctity of the world we live in. Sigh!
Deletepoignant...
ReplyDeletewas missing you quite sometime..
Glad to know that someone misses my work. Thanks for reading and a heart-warming comment.
Deletethe poems that you right on social causes should be used in the protests or incidents or in magazines to help people understand the gravity of the situation...
ReplyDeletenicely written
Glad to read your comment, it is very encouraging. I wish more people attain peace and there is less crime in the world.
DeleteThanks for reading Chetan. :)
OMG! I am so so sorry, Saru. Not sure how I missed this. :(
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and poignant post from the perspective of the mother. I was so devastated when I heard this news, how can someone even think of killing their own mother and so many innocent children? I get so disturbed if I start to even think about it. But is the mother partly to be blamed in this incident for being a 'gun enthusiast'? Well America seriously need to take a re-look at their gun laws. Such incidents are happening way too often. :(
I agree, US need strict gun laws. It's a heart wrenching incident, to say the least. Life is beyond understanding at times. And you don't need to be sorry for not reading, our relationship is beyond this blog. :)
DeleteIndeed a cry that pierces the heart and the soul. A heart wrenching rendition and a tribute to all the children this world is going to miss so dearly and also that poor mother who would have received the biggest and most devastating heart burn. The world these days is filled with so much sadness. :(
ReplyDeleteYes, there is so much sadness and it is leading to anger...Sad indeed!!!
DeleteMy first time here and wow! What a post. I am touched!!! Indeed the world is filled with a lot of sadness :(
ReplyDeleteYes, we need some serious changes. Don't know what the world is becoming...
Deletethe background itself is too touchy for me to reflect... well written Saru!
ReplyDeleteand Merry Christmas :-)
