67% Discounted
I stubbed my cigarette,
Naked I walk.
On a broken trail,
In the noise of a monologue.
Truth is a product,
I bought 'it' on discount.
Applauding myself in soliloquy,
On the bargain so profound.
25% thrashed, for the world so corrupt,
15% more for shredding peer's trust.
10% lost in commercialization wave,
15% goes to how we behave.
2% is the surcharge,
For making life unbelievingly large.
Go, add your reasons for heavier rebate,
No one cares about truth, of late.
Wait! I found what's bothering me inside,
Killing me for buying the stale lot.
Wiser men stayed away,
What I grabbed, no one ever bought.

A chilling look at consumerism and politics.
ReplyDeleteIt's more about truth. :)
DeleteAhha!!! What an insighful post. Reading the title I thought it's some promotional post of some product.:P But whoaa! You have so precisely scribbled about the truth bought on discount. I'm first time here to thank you for reading me at Indivine. Thank-you :)
ReplyDeleteSilly Smiles... Take you Miles :)
DeleteGlad you like it Surbhi and welcome here.
What do I say here....I daily have debate on this 'The Truth' with my family and friends....I always tell them that Truth is not what is visible....it's an illussion...
ReplyDeleteanother nice way to describe truth..
Going by what is happening all around us, we can say that truth is nothing more than an illusion. Thanks for reading Hemant.
DeleteAwesome Saru...:) The value of truth is lost. It sure scary, but hope that this commercialisation of truth stops.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that Prashanth, we are diving into it like never before.
DeleteCalculations all around..May it be anything..from emotions to relations ,from products to humans, from truth to fiction..Deep insightful poem indeed ..I second Surbhi..
ReplyDeleteYeah, sad but true :(
DeleteThanks for reading!
Stupendous!!!
ReplyDeleteBravo!! :)
Thank you :)
Delete"Truth is a product"...Deep words!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteAwesome!! So insightful and so true!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ria!
DeleteWell, that is one explanation of what is happening with truth today, isn't it? Sad are the state of affairs. But, of course, who has the time to look at the mirror?
ReplyDeleteIf you don't mind my saying - shouldn't it be 'of late' rather than 'off late'?
Nobody, we are busy in the mindless pursuit. Thanks for pointing the error and I never mind. :)
Deleteamazing! i loved the concept...keep writing dear :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it! Thanks!
DeleteTruth!! always painful..
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteBeautiful, powerful and I can feel the depth in those words.
ReplyDeleteHats off, Saru! Love reading your poems.

DeleteImagine the real worth when 67% is on discount. Nice one Saru:)
ReplyDeleteValue of truth is always great but sadly, we fail to acknowledge it. Thanks for reading Sir.
DeleteGood one Saru. So insightful and power packed words.
ReplyDeleteThanks Akanksha!
DeleteProfound! Well said.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachna!
Deletethe real value of truth is lost forever .. what truth is present today is no truth but all fake!
ReplyDeleteKinda in most of the situations.
DeleteA little bit spooky...but reality isnt it.
ReplyDeleteIt is sadly the reality. :(
Deletesimply poweful :) loved it Saru :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Saurabh!
Deleteawesome post
ReplyDeleteExcellent concept about politics and consumer advertising. I'd curious to know how you came up with the percentages... is that discounted too?! ;-)
ReplyDeletePretty much, it's just a work of fiction so I went with my instincts. If you want, you can add yours to it. :)
Deleteवाह, पढ़कर डूब सा गया..
ReplyDeleteDhanyawad!
DeleteIt's a reality in this dark world.
ReplyDeleteVery Interesting! Loved it! :)
Thanks Gayatri!
DeleteThis is amazing! The topic, the language, the rhyme...just everything...brilliant!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it Prateek :)
DeleteI was just thinking what all could be the reasons to add for heavier rebate... so much malice around
ReplyDeleteSo well thought and put across...
True Manjulika, there is so much malice around that we could actually get a heavier rebate on truth. Thanks for reading.
Deleteharsh truth presented so beautifully in words ,, awesome poetry as always and a seriously grt footnote ,,indeed world is getting darker by the day :)
ReplyDeleteIt is...
DeleteThanks for reading and appreciating it. :)

ReplyDeleteLove your thoughts and their presentation! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sir!
Deletehey i have added you on google followers, add my site too......... thanks
ReplyDeleteSorry, I didn't get you.
DeleteSuch a hard hitting truth presented in a realistic way, Saru. That 15% blame/credit on us should be much higher because I am a lot more cynical in that aspect. It is our mindset that make us not believe what other's say. Our conscience is responsible for not trusting one another. Again, we are the ones responsible for commercializing everything.
ReplyDeleteYeah, cynicism is pretty high, I witness it on a daily basis. For almost everything we are responsible, we have stooped so low that we want end results at any cost.
DeleteTruth expressed in written words...gr8 one Saru. Only daring writers can do that... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for an encouraging comment Priti :)
DeleteGreat one on reality and truth Mrs.Saru ma'am...I am so lucky to be associated with such a talented poet like you ma'am:)
ReplyDeletePleasure is all mine Bushra and we can leave Mrs and Ma'am. We are good without that :)
DeleteI just can say, Beautiful...
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSo true, and so unfortunate too. Very powerfully written, Saru.
ReplyDeleteTrue, we live in harsh times.
DeleteWe all live in cage. Only truth shall set us free! But where is truth?
ReplyDeleteTruth is the most endangered thing. However, in our hearts we all know what is true and what is right.
DeleteAs a poem it is perfectly written...but lets fact it...the world was designed to be a mean place right from the begining. It runs on the 'survival of fittest' principle, so lies, deceit, jealously etc negativity has been around since time immemorial and will be there even after we perish...and thats the truth ...lol ( donno if i understand what i'm writing myself )
ReplyDeleteI understand you but somehow things are becoming dark day by day. Remember when we were teens, how the phrase, 'I Love You' was sacred. Now it is the most diluted one. Strange, isn't it!
DeleteTrue and very intense thoughts
ReplyDeleteTravel India
Thanks Vishal!
DeleteSo true, Saru. Nicely expressed.
ReplyDeleteThanks TF!
DeleteNice one Saru and very true!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sumeetha!
DeleteVery well expressed saru !! Deep notes on truth..
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteHaha Nice one :) But why 67? why not the round figure 70? :)
ReplyDelete2/3rd of every statement is a lie, that's how I conceived the poem. You can add or subtract your own reasons though Jahid :)
DeleteWhat I grabbed, no one ever bought.
ReplyDeleteTrue:)
never thought this way :)
Yeah, we fell for it. Thanks for reading Nikhil :)
DeleteSimilar to Megadeth's "Peace sells, but who's buying?" I loved reading your 'truth sells, but who's buying?'
ReplyDeleteI like it that the author regrets more that she bought something unwanted rather than having bought something unique.
Sadly, people buy anything if sold in the right manner. Truth has lost its meaning. Glad you liked it. Thanks for reading. :)
DeleteGreat! Love your perspective <3
ReplyDeletelove

Thanks Megha! :)
DeleteWonderful..truth is so hard to get these days...
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed...
DeleteAwesome poem and attached note, Saru. Very impressed. As for truth, all we can do is try to speak it and live it. As for others, it is enough to recognise them for what they are as most people appreciate honesty and get put off lies.
ReplyDeleteDeep within we all know what is true and what's not. Sometimes, we don't have the courage to speak it. As you said, we should try. Thanks a lot for liking the poem, coming from you, it means a lot.
DeleteA glass can be considered half-full or half-empty and both interpretations are right
ReplyDeleteTruth no matter how much discounted will still be truth. In our hearts we all that finding truth is not like shades of grey but it's simple case of black and white.
Beautiful poem!
I totally loved your perspective Kirti. Thanks for reading. :)
DeleteThat's what I call modern contemporary poetry. My number crunching friends would be proud to read this. Valiant attempt Saru!
ReplyDeleteThanks Arnab :)
DeleteAmazingly true....such a poignant poem, Saru.

DeleteVery true poem on truth Saru! Beautifully written!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valli :)

ReplyDeleteI write couplets/quotes which I want everyone to read and I post it whenever I feel like but I don't have enough time to reply to two posts in a week. Hence, no comments. Also, it's more of fun to me. :) BTW, glad you asked. :)

DeleteTruth is a product,
ReplyDeleteI bought 'it' on discount...
loved this... sometimes I wonder how much of our lives is controlled by mere numbers
I think a lot of things are controlled by numbers and we are in a rat race. We have to learn to see the deeper meaning of life. Thanks for reading Jyoti. :)
DeleteProfound thoughts expressed beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Deleteloved the way you have presented relationships..so apt to our current lifestyle and the way we deal with others around and yes with ourselves too...
ReplyDeleteWe live in cynical times, Sigh!
