Lost Prairie, Perished Dreams
Someone said
Look for greener pastures
Chase it, dream high
Leave the barren highlands
You're an eagle
Just fly...
I did what they said
I left my folks
Earned enough bread
Slogged day in, day out
Yesterday someone else asked -
Are you happy?
Enough dime, perfect home
I smiled, I thought
Living in the prairie
My dreams are lost
Merrier times, I profess

very true, but what about ambitions ?
ReplyDeleteWhile chasing ambitions, we loose the course of inner happiness. We need to strike a balance between two.
DeleteSo true Saru! Money can fulfil dreams of happy life to a point and internal happiness comes from things not really material but more related to soul and mind:)
ReplyDeleteVery true Sir. Often chasing our dreams, we forget this simple truth.
Deleteमन का चाहे, कोई न जाने,
ReplyDeleteहमको बस कुछ वर्ष बिताने।
Wish, we think more profound than that...
DeleteSo true but.. Sad. !!!.. But it is money world. With money we cant buy happiness.. But without it we cant do anything so today other things is secondary ..... Nd also happiness.!!!
ReplyDeleteWe need to strike a balance. Chasing money mindlessly will only increase our woes.
DeleteSo true and so sad... And yet, sometimes, we can find new dreams along the way.
ReplyDeleteVery true. :)

DeleteSo true - Money can fultill our materialistic happiness, dreams.. BUT its very hard to fulfill ourinternal happiness, satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteYes! And welcome back Kitty :) You were missed.
DeleteBeautiful composition...indeed money can't buy us happiness....and if sometimes it does buy it, it doesn't last long!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, happiness bought with money doesn't last long. It just satisfies our materialistic desires. Thanks for a beautiful comment Bushra.
Deletehappiness is everything, but to understand it in real sense
ReplyDeletejust to know that money can't buy everything, we gotta once try and buy it all .. when we fail, that's when we realize
We all learn from experience and those are the true lessons.
DeleteTrue..grass is always greener on the other side. We reach the point where we aim and don't realize what we lose in between...when we have somethings in abundance, we definitely do miss many other small things..
ReplyDeleteVery true. We both can relate to it Latha.
DeleteKuch paane ke liye kuch khona zaroori hai :)

ReplyDeleteIt can never, it can only fulfill materialistic desires.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ma'am.
DeleteThe famous question that haunts all the career driven professionals! Are we happy? With the money we have, with the materialistic possessions et al.. Its sad that we know about this yet we run after money.. That's what humans have turned into.. Very apt Saru! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, we make mistakes knowing well what we are upto. Thanks for reading and sharing your views Binu :)
DeleteVery well written.. This is similar to my situation too. I keep moving in search of greener pastures, and sway away from family and happiness!
ReplyDeleteNicely done~ :)
Sadly, we all do that...Thanks for reading Mi :)
Deleteabsolute truth! wonderfully written Saru!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Saurabh :)
DeleteA truth, unfortunately realized after running behind illusionary dreams and achieving all but nothing..
ReplyDeleteVery beautifully said Hemant.
DeleteTo get one, we need to lose one! And so many times, not out of choice, we choose green pastures to live a convenient lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteYes, you are so very right. Our choice for a comfortable life has led to such complexities.
DeleteBut what if the dreams themselves are the greener pastures. Wouldn't we all humans being would have been humble content beings!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible? But, if it is possible, we will make a merrier generation.
DeleteWonderful message hidden in there and so true. This reminded me of that ad which says - " there are some things money cant buy... for everything else there is..". You bought that out beautifully :)

DeleteMoney is not be all and end all of life.Since happiness is mind-set, we can trod on life without money.Nice write .
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a state of mind and that's a beautiful thought. Thanks for sharing such lovely message with us.
DeleteAre you happy? This question is the most difficult to answer for man. Nice.
ReplyDeleteIt is...
DeleteHappiness is a state of mind depends on what brings you happiness ..you cant buy happiness with money but for some happiness can be money :))
ReplyDeleteEven that's true. But when they reach that stage, they will think otherwise.
DeleteWell stated message with nice, simple words. Money can't buy you happiness... but you know, it's a lot easier to cry in a Mercedes Benz than a Yugo! :-P
ReplyDeleteHaha... I say that to my friends. It's super awesome to think in Starbucks, sipping latte and gazing the lovely view.
Delete'Are you happy?'
ReplyDeleteI have never figured out the right answer to that question!
I think most of us are trying to find that answer.
DeleteVery well written.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteTotally agree!dream high and be happy totally differ from each other...
ReplyDeleteThey are different. :)
DeleteChasing dreams, leaving family and friends behind, I hear ya. A lost prarie that I am. A good read, thank you Saru.

DeleteSo true in today's times. Nice read. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Hetal :)
DeleteThis poem comes straight from your heart it seems.Such is life--when we pick one potion we have to leave the other.
ReplyDeleteit was option not potion.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about making choices. I wish there was an easy way of opting things.
DeleteHi Saru. Always good to come to your place. :)
ReplyDeleteLife is weird, enough evidence of that could be seen in your poem. As we chase our dreams, we find that they have to be achieved at the cost of something equally dear to us, the peace of mind. BEAUTIFUL POEM Saru.
Merrier times, I profess
Can't be bought with money.
So true. WELL PROFESSED. :)
Hi Deepak, Happiness, peace of mind and such adjectives attain more importance when our chase leads us to complexities. We have to taste the bitter to understand what is sweet.
DeleteThanks for reading and for a beautiful comment. Your presence is always sought. :)
beautiful poem... short yet big , simple yet complex....
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Dharesh :)
DeleteVery True Saru ! We need a right balance between ambitions and happiness as you said.
ReplyDeleteWe do...
DeleteThat's the truth about life...we strive for happiness...by thinking...Money,Fame,prosperity and happiness can be brought about...but at the end we end on moments where we could have lived our life and be happy instead of going for the materialistic possessions...!!!
ReplyDeleteWe all go through this path. We learn this lesson from our mistakes.
DeleteIt is magical when path of dreams coincides with path of happiness! Wish that happens!
ReplyDeleteYeah, wish that happens...Life will be blissful!
DeleteNicely conveyed the simple truth which we take a long time to realize.
ReplyDeleteWe take a lot of time to understand the basics of life. Thanks for reading :)
DeleteIt might be a simple thought, but really -- it's written so beautifully and in such a way that everyone relates to it. I hope you find dreams in the Prairies too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Divya. Definition of dream keeps on changing for me. I guess, we are growing up now.
Deletewhat I relate to is leaving your janmabhoomi towards karmabhoomi ....longing for a sweet homecoming...
ReplyDeleteYeah, longing for homecoming and to be really happy.
DeleteThey chased and then stopped to question if it was even necessary....
ReplyDeleteI TRULYYYY LOVED THIS ONE SARU!
We all do that, we learn from our mistakes. Glad you like it :)
DeleteIt's true that merrier times can't be bought with money but sometimes harsh times can arise due to lack of money.
ReplyDeleteYeah but that will be putting money at use.
Deleteyou are right most of us do not realise the difference between the two....a good topic to write on....
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSurely, money isn't everything !!!
ReplyDeleteIt is not!
DeleteMany think that goal of life is 'study-earn-marry-kids-work-harder-retire-grandkids-die'. Generation of generation this format is inherited. But the real goal of life is happiness. One should do what they love and not live for the satisfaction of society by sacrificing their own happiness.
ReplyDeleteYou have written the truth as a poem, Singhal. Well done!
This reminds me of the top regrets of the dying recorded by a nurse.

Hi Arun, first thanks for sharing such a wonderful read. We must do what we actually feel like. Also, those who do that excel in life, others just lead a mechanical life.
